SAS, welcome to the forum Sir.

Where is your operation located in the Philippines? Manila? My brother married a girl from Davao City and is trying to convince me to move there with him.

I am good acquaintances with Donnie Surrat - if for any reason you know him. He owned and operated an Executive Protection firm here in Dallas, Texas for 25 years. Now, he spends about 6 months out of the year (or less) in the Philippines. He assured me he would never even consider opening up shop in the Philippines due to the laws there.

If my brother wants to do ANYTHING for business, it will have to be under his wife's name only. Very similar to Central America from what I have heard (employment laws).

Thailand's the same way. Hard for non-citizens to even own land, I understand. Makes some of those places bad choices for business, and not that much better for simple retirement, unless you're willing to be the "beach bum expat" always at risk of getting kicked out on a whim (like when you failed to grease the right palm).

I'm quite partial to 1st generation Asian women, but I don't think I'd consider their home countries for more than tourism.

:welcome: sas22!

You can own 40% of the company here in the philippines, but you can own 100% if more than 60% is earned outside the Philippines. You can own condo's out right. As far as work there is much work here and well paid.
