Our client had requested an escort to go to an event. All I knew was that she and a family member would be driven by her chauffeur, and one agent from our team would come along. This was fairly unusual for this client, but a simple routine precaution. I had assigned the same agent as in that past thread : http://www.socalbodyguards.com/forum/showthread.php?t=218. This actually took place at the same account, but a little prior.

As I was watching the limo drive down towards me, and was giving the driver the all-clear at the gate, my agent came on the radio to announce that he was not in the principal's vehicle! A second family member had jumped in right in front of him and he just couldn't get in the car...
Thinking on his feet - and thereby justifying my choice - he was already hightailing it to the garage to jump into his own car.
Unable to stop my client's car, I stepped out onto the street instead and followed on foot while giving directions to my guy over the air. A few seconds later, the agent came on the radio to announce having visual.
The rest of the escort was even shakier, but I'll leave it for another day...

Note that there was no way I was going to be able to advise my client to wait for her security, nor to instruct her to always have a seat available for us. That's not how it works in my world. No, you play catch-up and they watch you improvise, sometimes with great amusement (it's always a test).
So after this we made it a SOP to always have our personal vehicles nearby when ready to go out with this client.

A while later, the chauffeur tried to give me some advice on how to man a family event, due to the heightened threat level our client was under. I told him flat out that we knew what we had to do, thank you, and that if he was so concerned about the lady's safety, he might want to avoid leaving one of us in the dust next time.

Great advise.. We also acted as the drivers for one of the clients that I worked for.. We drove all of their vehicle and it was alot of fun most of the time.. But you are 100% right you have to have the right personnel in the right place at the right time..

There was another client that I had that went to Guatamala.. OMG what a nightmare that was.. Ill talk about that one later.. it was several months ago and Im still cringing from that experience...
