INCIDENT REPORT: IRAQ - BOMBING

LINE 1 - TIME OF REPORT: 1330 GMT 20 OCTOBER 2009

LINE 2 - UNIT / ORGANIZATION: Suspected Militants

LINE 3 - TYPE OF INCIDENT: Car bombs / roadside bombs

LINE 4 - TIME OF INCIDENT: 20 October 2009

LINE 5 - LOCATION: Saqlawiyah; Kazimiyah; Mosul; Hilla, Iraq

LINE 6 - CASUALTIES: At least 6 killed, unknown injured.

LINE 7 - NARRATIVE: In the first incidet, a car packed with explosives blew up at a gas station in the town of Saqlawiyah, 45 miles (75 kilometers) west of Baghdad, killing three policemen and one civilian.
Afterward, In northern Baghdad, one civilian was killed
and four were wounded when a bomb attached to a minibus exploded in
Kazimiyah, a primarily Shiite suburb of the capital.
Minutes later In Hilla, just south of Baghdad, a roadside bomb targeting a police patrol killed one policeman and wounded two others.
In the far northern city of Mosul a roadside bomb targeted an Iraqi army patrol, wounding two soldiers and one civilian.

LINE 8 - ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS: Low level insurgency continues to target the country's struggling security forces.

LINE 9 - ASSESSMENT: Baghdad and its surroundings have been a particular focus of sectarian attacks and insurgency following the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003. Since then, the district has seen a significant decrease in violence.
Overall, attacks in Iraq have declined though violence is common in some areas, including Mosul and Baghdad
