View Full Version : another one from your uncle sumo...
so I was working for a group lets just say the groups name rhymes with "the jonas brothers" and the boys wanted to goto the mall, now mind you we are not talking a prearranged closed store spree we are talking a casual stroll around the americana with no shopping agenda and whats more "it's cool sumo if we just roll with just you we want to keep a low profile with the security and stuff" PAUSE. (I am sure some of you more experienced EP elitist's are crapping your pants laughing at whats about to take place to your old pal sumo but lets just say it was one of my first EP gigs) PLAY. "sure" I said thinking I had it all under control we will have a stroll through the mall maybe even grab cinnamon bun from a certain autonomous unit for mid mall snacking, anyways so we all pile into the SUV and the driver gets us to the mall and we are not greeted by the usual pile of goofballs with flashbulbs we usually are so i think man I might have an easy day, as soon as we turn the corner out of the garage I hear what sounds like someone throwing a bunch of quarters into a stairwell we are talking the loudest most high pitched sound ever, and I see about 3 dozen tween-aged girls going bananas on the curb with a hail storm of paparazzi being held back by a police blockade, a freaking police blockade!!! and thats when a smart-ass publicist from behind our little group remarks "oh someone must have told someone" I love hollywood wit it warms my heart. Now this is the part where I beg the question to my fellow big men EP's I am 6'5 and 400 pounds an ex division one college football player, How the hell do you out maneuver a 95 pound year old 13 year old. if you ever find out let me know.

Ever see the movie, “The Commitments?”
A fight breaks out on stage, “Keep Playing”
It’s amazing what ego’s can do to the chemistry of a group.

Another great funny story! And sooo... true.
One, I'm not gonna laugh at you, brother: the principal who gets advised when and where to go, and how best to get there, is something I only saw on screen... Most of the time, security tags along or drives in my world, period. This is especially true of celebs, who just don't want the discipline and restrictions of real security, and who are not under much of a (perceived) threat level.
And two, the leaks... For those who don't know, the tabloids keep as many people as possible on "payroll". They have sources at hotels, restaurants, and... among domestic staffs. I have seen an ad where they were even trying to recruit security personnel for discreet intel...
Then, we also know that the papparazzi "chase" is in a lot of cases a game orchestrated by the celebs themselves or their publicists.
I do hate the paps and what they represent, and some of them are absolutely out of control (I remember one causing a TC with the principal's vehicle once), don't get me wrong. But they do have a point when they say that you can't instigate something, then whine about it when convenient for you to play the victim.

I have been approached with very large sums of cash money in order to illicit intel about my principle if i may add to the already well said list of LT about if you want to become EP don't ever let these guys even think your considering telling them anything if the story doesn't pan out the next story is how personal security detail sold out a principle don't ever think integrity is for sale I will sit in a dunk tank for charity but I will never be anyones fool. remebr boys money is in short supply if you want to work for the long haul easy money is a myth.

Credibility is of the utmost importance.. And selling yourself short is absolutely not worth it.. Not to mention the fact that if you are able to every secure another job after you get busted it will be a very low paying very crappy detail...
