I was just curious if anyone works, has worked, or knows someone that works for Gavin De Becker. I would like to know the pros and cons (if any). Any input would help.

Gavin is solidly founded within the NON-armed estate protection realm. They provide estate protection agents for many hollywood moguls including Oprah and more.
They typically hire 21-30 year old as the rule, and to every rule there are exceptions. They start typical estate agents sub $20 an hour, in 12 hour shifts.
They prefer military background, but I know of agents who are civilians. They have a 1 week in-house training academy, only open to new hires, at no charge. Physical fitness is a big part of the hiring process, you have to complete a physical ability test(s) including push ups, sit ups, running, etc... you have to be in fairly good physical shape to complete this from what I have been told.

I have heard they are a great company to work with, I have heard many good things about them. He has several books, I would recommend reading them.

Thanks for the info. Unarmed is a little disappointing.

anymore being armed is more work than its worth, most of those stars he protects have insurance on them and they don't allow the guards to be armed...wierd but true...

GDB applicants are required to have a gun permit. From the info I gathered a while back, .40 cal is specified, and a CCW, while not required, is viewed favorably.
I'll venture that, like a lot of companies, they have their agents keep a firearm at their post (personal or issued), just in case.

Firearms are definitely useful. However, they can also become a hassle when escorting clients to secure areas of airports, courthouses, or any venues where weapons are prohibited (Oscars).

And you'd be surprised to see how many clients (celebs or not) have actually no clue whether their protective detail is armed or not...
