Hey, guys, a co-worker is having a hard time finding a "drop leg" rig for his gun. It's a SA TRP/Operator with a full-length dustcover/rail, like the Operator.
He has been told it's a rare LE-only gun (!) and few holster makers specify anything for that particular model on their sites.
His preference would be a Blackhawk Serpa, as he doesn't like the Safariland system, but he's open to other styles as long as it's worn on the thigh.
He's still waiting for a reply from Blackhawk, I believe.
I came up empty-handed after some online research and SA simply emailed my buddy to contact the usual suspects (Galco, Bianchi, etc.) and that's not gonna do.
So, anyone with a TRP full-length rail or Operator know what works for sure?

The best thing that I could suggest is to do exactly what he is doing.. Contact the manufacturers directly.. I have the same issue with one of my .40 cals.. Its a baby eagle.. and the holster company that I contacted advised me that it was interchangable with another weapon.. Maybe they will have the same situation.. The other thing that would suggest is to get a universal drop rig and go with that they look pretty sharp and arent insanely priced either....

Have you looked at Blade-tech? They have a large selection of 1911 style holsters and the retention system is pretty ingenious.

Wolf: yeah, the best would be for Blackhawk to tell him exactly what model (if any) fits his gun. They're in the best position to answer, of course. We'll see.
He's not mounting a light and that's a pb in some rigs. And gunshops are not a reliable source of info as we know so he's been getting the run-around.
Kevbarand: good suggestion with Blade Tech. They are well regarded by users from what I hear too. But they also seem to use a hood, like Safariland, and my buddy much prefers the Serpa release so far.
He's also been refrerred to a shop that custom makes holsters in Burbank (probably expensive), so there's options. But in the end, he might have to just make do with what fits his piece.
Thanks for the hand, guys! Still fishing for ideas at this point. He's actually carrying a Sig 229 for now, like you Wolf, and only tempted to transition to his 1911 for some jobs. And now if I could only convince him to join the forum himself... :)

After doing the research for my google-fu-challenged co-worker, it turns out that there is no Serpa for the full-length rail SA. Both Blade-Tech and Safariland do have thigh rig models that will fit that particular weapon, however, so it looks like my buddy will have to get used to another system. For those interested:

Thanks for the suggestions, guys!
