WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court says the Constitution's "right to keep and bear arms" applies nationwide as a restraint on the ability of government to limit its application.
The justices on Monday cast doubt on a Chicago area handgun ban, but also signaled in their 5-4 decision that less severe restrictions could survive legal challenges.

I dont think so... It basically opens the way for more law suits to make people and the states relax their laws some.. Time will tell...

But isn't this a start? Here in Cali we're told that we can sue all we want, we're screwed anyway (see the CCW situation or the %$#@ roster). If government officials and local authorities get the idea that trampling on people's rights will get them caught up in endless litigation (regardless of what amount of slavery the sheep are willing to endure), that could make them think twice. I hope.
Look, I'm a pessimist and this is not a revolution that we're talking about, but in our messed up times... I find this trend encouraging.
ETA: And as repulsive as I find the idea of an avalanche of lawsuits, this is precisely the weapon that was used by the left to try and bring the firearms industry to its knees (after it worked so well on Big Tobacco) so that's only fair that they'd get a taste of their own medicine...

LT you and I have talked about this in a couple of PM's over the last several months and yes I believe that it is a start.. There has to be a starting place somewhere.. First DC then Chicago.. Next???? Cali???? UMMM HMMM It may prove to be very interesting, based on the fact that the bleeding hearted liberals there seem to have a majority vote.. HOWEVER.... It kind of funny in a way, they protest about people having guns, yet yell the loudest about being "VICTIMS" of crime.. Well.. That old adage of you cant have your cake and eat it too may well apply here... Bottom line here is that I personally believe that it is just a matter of time until CALI falls to us gun toating freaks.. And Right Wing Extremist..
Oh yeah whats with Arnie cutting state employees pay to minimum wage??? I almost fell out of my chair when I read about that... WOW.. Makes you wonder how long before the rest of the states follow suite...

May you be right on that, brother. :)
The Californian "elite" (pols, celebs, etc.) is already armed and/or protected by armed bodyguards (I would know) so their stance on victims' rights is a sham: they couldn't care less if people get raped, robbed or murdered because they have no access to firearms.
And when Bush didn't renew the AWB, that was great news for the rest of the country, but Cali already had its own ban so we remained screwed with a capital "S". That's the kinda thing that makes me pessimistic when I see progress elsewhere.
But if certain limits on the 2nd can be shown to be unconstitutional, we should be able to challenge our local gun laws too. Who knows? One can hope.

Yeah thats what I read.. Just the thought that they dont have their stuff together yet.. Ive been hearing things about the economy in Cali for a long time... and who suffers in the long run???? The citizens of the state and the ones that work for the state. Customer Service is going to go in the toilet... Attitudes will deteriorate and well.. Long story short everyone suffers in the long run...
