Although you raise some good points, I respectfully disagree: I don't want to look them up right now, but several states offer non-resident CCW permits. It actually started a cottage industry of sorts, where instructors help you qualify and obtain CCWs for as many permits as possible. BTI offers such service for FL and UT. I know I looked into getting a NV one a while back.

And some states require you to make the trip, others don't.

If you look closely into reciprocity agreements and play your hand right, with a minimum of non-resident permits, you can not only carry legally in the locales you may travel too, but a majority of states, period.

You are right that while the permits are one thing, local jurisdictions can be tricky with their restrictions (watch San Francisco or Las Vegas, for example). Rules on the need to disclose to a police officer you come in contact with (traffic stop) vary, among other things.

Technically, you're also right that multi-state permits don't exist. What people simply mean is: a small number of permits that allow you to carry in many more states through the magic of reciprocity agreements... :)

As far as the current White House tenant... until he gets evicted, I also agree that no progress in gun rights will come from his direction. But we've been noticing a number of legal challenges and local reversals (AZ) that make me somewhat hopeful. Clinton was another gun-grabber under whom we saw a lot of CCW progress, I think precisely in reaction against policies coming from the top.
The federal CCW does remain a pie in the sky thing for us, but it did become a reality of sorts for LEOs just a few years back, so who knows?

I will say that based on the actions of the NRA and the forces that be, the changes are coming.. Meaning basically Washington DC fell to the no firearms laws, and even the POTUS home town of Chicago recently fell as well McDonald vs. City of Chicago... All changes are being challenged at this time, however I personally believe that with proper support the entire country will be gun toating once again.. My only major concern that I personally have is the fact that there are dealings going on behind the scenes ie Secretary of State Clinton... Making deals with the UN... HMMMMMMMM

As an NRA & multi state CCW instructor it is important to know that just having a state CCW does NOT authorize one to carry for BUSINESS purposes, many states require additional permits and or licensing. That CCW permit/ license may be issued solely for an individuals personal use to defend themselves or someone else depending upon each individual state. If you carry while on detail out of your residence state where you are a CCW holder you need to be clear as to what you may or may not legally do.

Yes! A CCW isssued for personal protection does not make one a bodyguard. And in CA, if the authorities issued for personal use, one cannot CCW as a bodyguard. If they issued for private security use (EP, PI, PPO, etc.), then the proper related licenses have to be obtained and maintained.
My co-worker went on to say that since he possessed (non-resident) CCWs from other states, he could bodyguard there. I unfortunately think that many people do get those in order to make a stronger case when applying for a CA CCW (CA LEAs couldn't care less and no CCW from any other state is recognized here!) or for the purpose of bodyguard travel. You can of course cross a state line with a client with CA security credentials, and a local CCW will then ensure that you can legally keep a concealed firearm on your person (just like your CA driver's license entitles you to pass through another state). But IF you are to accept out-of-state permanent employment, just like you'll be expected to get a local driver's license, you'll need local security creds to operate under that state's guidelines.
And:
And talking about credentials, those are not optional! The BSIS clearly states that a bodyguard is a security guard. Depending on how many clients you have and the nature of the contract(s), you'll need a guard card (proprietary or not) and possibly an exposed firearm permit and even a PPO. A non-resident CCW doesn't magically transform you into a bodyguard from that state.
Whether you work for a company licensed to provide services in that other state or not, you still need to obtain your own local licensing in order to be legal.
