Hey guys,
it's nice to be a member on the forum. Ive been reading up on all of the great information here. I look forward to learning more in the future.
I'm currently a security officer for a security firm based in California that provides EP services, something in which I am very interested. I hope to take an EP course this summer to jumpstart my (future) career.
So, here I am, ready to learn! Anyone else from UT? I noted that it seems that everyone is from CA. Is that kind of the mecca of EP work or is it just that the forum is geared towards SoCal? And is there another forum I could join that might have more info for work in UT?

Welcome to the site! Just becuase the name of the forums is SCBA, we have members all over the world. The forum is just a Socal operation, but open to anyone in the security and bodyguard industry.
If you are looking to get some training, we have a site sponsor who specializes in both Domestic and International EP operations, depending upond the course you choose - check out BTI in the side bar, click the link to visit their website.
Other than that, be sure contribute to the site and feel free to ask questions, you wont get any attitudes or egos on this site, it is just not that type of site (nor do we admins have any tolerance for idiots)
Once again welcome, and post away!

I noted that it seems that everyone is from CA.Well, it's in the name... :D But as SCBA Admin said, we have members from all over the world. CA, especially SoCal, is a big EP market, BTW, but not the only one in the US. I haven't run into too many guys from Utah or operating there, though.
Since your employer provides EP services you're in a good position. What are their particular requirements to be an agent? See if you can meet them. Once in (and at another income level, even if it's just for on-and-off ops like events) you can always save for courses. On-the-job training is invaluable.
Well, I join SCBA Admin in his :welcome: to you and humbly second his comments on the forum. It is inclusive and attitude-free, which is refreshing in the industry. ;)
It's not the kinda place where you have to show a badge, kiss someone's ring, or be part of a BTDT clique before being allowed to talk so, yes, do post away! :)

YUP Im from the other coast primarily...... Hopefully one day I will get to come to Cali and get all my stuff taken care of... I personally have been in this industry for a very long time and am beginning to think the way of the dinosaur.. Meaning Im about to become extinct... Not really but the point is even the old dogs can learn new tricks... Its all good....

Thanks for the welcome guys. I kind of get the impression that there's not much need for EP in UT, which is unfortunate for me :( how long have you all been in the field? Do you find that most people come from LE backgrounds?

In EP per se, it's about 8 years for me. And in LA, yes, there's A LOT of LEOs in bodyguarding and investigations, in part because CCWs are so rare for civvies here.
A number of companies "specialize" in non-LEOs , usually ex-military guys right out of the service (that they can pay a lot less, like $15-20/hr instead of $25+). There are a number of guys not from these two backgrounds in EP, though.

huh. Interesting. That's a bit different than in UT...here pretty much no one can stop you from carrying. Even courts and police stations have to provide you with lockers if they dont want you packing while your're on their property hahaha...
