Hallo.

Thank you for a great site full of usefull info. I have 9years experience in security, including cash in transit ,satelite vehicle tracking and armed response. For the last 2 and half years I have been working as a bodyguard for a business man from South Korea and his familly here in South Africa. Although I have good experience and good training,I am not certified or accredited for the CPO industry. I however love the job and want to take it further in the field. The problem is that training is so very expensive!! Is there security companies who will maybe take interns or finance training?

Training is critical to your career, training is NOT just limited to learning what you dont know, it is also practicing what you already do know!!

I am the director of BTI - Bodyguard Training International, a California based training company. Training is the key to the success of your detail/assignment/career...

people attend one training camp and think they are squared away for life... WRONG, you must continue your training, the environments change, the world changes... what we did in Vietnam is far different than what we are doing in the war today, the same applies to personal security.

The days of the 350lb bouncer type is evolving rapidly... guys are more averaged sized, average build, but technical in the advance, team, and client dynamics, all of which are practiced and learned in training.

The cost of training is relative... there are some scam schools out there, i know we assisted the US Secret Service putting a company down in Tennesse out of business for fraud and ripping off students. so beware, do your research.

As for companies offering money or interns, I do not know of any. Every profession from a Physician to a truck driver, requires schooling and education - which all costs money. We have trained several guys and teams over the years that clients have paid for, this may be an option. If you are part of a team, talk to the TL or AIC and find out if there is a budget for training, especially if you all can train as a team.
If you are a solo agent, you would have to speak to your client... some advice on that -

Dont ask your client for money for training... let them know there is an upcoming training academy, and take the approach of additional training to your current skills... they may pay for it, as it would be a tax write off, at least in the US.

Best of luck on your quest, welcome to the site!
